Ashwani Lohani, Ex Chairman & Managing Director —Air India and ex-Chairman —Railway Board of Indian Railways, feels that states like Madhya Pradesh should identify 5 key destinations which has potential to be put on the MICE map of India, and provide proper incentives to stakeholders initially to promote such places.
Lohani was speaking at an event organised as part of the launch of Chhatrasal Convention Centre in Khajuraho in Madhya Pradesh.
Talking specifically on Khajuraho, Lohani said that connectivity continue to hamper the accessibility to the destination. While air connectivity largely depends on steady demand from the market for airline seats, Lohani said that other alternatives can be explored to improve access. Lohani proposed four laning of the Jhansi – Khajuraho road and a premium tourist much affordable than Palace on Wheels connecting various Central Indian sites.
He said that tourism requires nothing but conducive environment for people to explore places and therefore coordination and cohesiveness is what is required for tourism to prosper.
