With the ongoing rainfall in forest-covered Khanapur taluk, many waterfalls have sprung to life, attracting tourists and nature lovers. Last year, the forest department had placed some restrictions on visiting the waterfalls. It had advised visitors to take prior permission. However, this time, no restrictions have been imposed on tourists.
Meanwhile, the forest department has given special attention to waterfalls like Chikale, Lakadi, Sada, Maan, Vajra, Vajrapoha, Varja, Vajrapoha, Shimbola etc, where the tourist footfall is the highest. All these waterfalls are in their full glory and inviting visitors.
According to forest department sources, Chikale and Lakadi waterfalls in Parawad are most popular in Khanapur taluk. Other waterfalls are in the interior parts of forest area, which is why fewer visitors go there. Visiting waterfalls in the forest of Khanapur taluk during rainy season is an adventurous activity.
Apart from visiting waterfalls, some visitors also go on treks to Asoga, Kankumbi, Chikale, Jamboti, Nagargali and Handibadaganath forest areas. One can also register with the forest department for treks and to avail a guide for the same. Speaking to the TOI, Santosh Chavan, assistant conservator of forests (ACF), Khanapur, said: “We are not restricting the tourists this time. We are monitoring the waterfalls which attract more crowd like Chikale and Parwad. For the past week, most of the waterfalls have come alive and visitors are enjoying the scenic view.”
