The Sangam city will have riverfront-type roads on both the banks of Ganga before Mahkumbh-2025 for the ease of visitors. “A proposal has been sent to the government for construction of riverfront-type roads. With this, tourism will also get a boost as well as devotees coming to Mahakumbh will be able to reach Sangam easily,” said superintending engineer, irrigation department Siddharth Kumar Singh.
This will also ensure that devotees coming to the mela area do not have to enter the main city and the traffic is also not affected during the main snan days. The roads will be constructed in seven sections at a cost of INR 95.20 crore.
This includes a 5 km road from Rasulabad Ghat to Sangam via Nag Vasuki temple and the second one being from Surdas ashram to Chhatnag on the Jhunsi side of the river. The total length of these roads will be 13.25km.
Presently, if one wishes to go towards Sangam from Rasulabad Ghat, then they have to do so via Teliarganj towards Jawahar Lal Nehru Road to Harshvardhan crossing etc. The distance of Sangam from Rasulabad Ghat is about 12 kms but with the construction of this road, it will reduce to 5 km. At the same time, the construction work of the entire road from Surdas ashram to Chhatnag in Jhunsi will also be undertaken. Sources said, for this entire work about 7.30 hectares of land will be acquired from farmers. The decision to build riverfront-type road was taken after the success of a similar road constructed during the Kumbh-2019. Mela officials said, benches would be installed along the riverfront for people to sit and enjoy the beauty of the river. Along with this, selfie points will also be made at various locations. This will help promote tourism throughout the year. The work of interlocking, boulder crates, slope pitching will be done.
