IndiGo 2nd airline to start int’l flights from North Goa; to connect Hyderabad with Singapore, ET TravelWorld

Budget carrier IndiGo has become the second Indian airline to launch international flight operations from the newly opened Manohar International airport in North Goa. The airline has announced new connections between the Mopa airport and UAE-capital city to enhance global connectivity and meet the increasing demand for travel to Goa and the Middle East.

IndiGo will commence a new route to Abu Dhabi from the coastal city and operate tri-weekly starting September 2. Air India will become the first airline to start international flights out of Mopa airport from July 21, when it starts operating thrice weekly flights to London Gatwick airport.

The Gurugram-based carrier currently operates flights to Abu Dhabi from from five major Indian cities, namely Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kochi, and Hyderabad.

In another development, IndiGo has launched a new international route down South in India with new, connection between Singapore from Hyderabad. The airline will connect both the cities with daily, direct flights starting October 29.

With the introduction of these flights, IndiGo will operate 58 flights a week from 8 online points in India ensuring even better connectivity.

Commenting on new international flights from Goa, Vinay Malhotra, Head of Global Sales, IndiGo, said, “Introducing an exciting development in our flight offerings, we are thrilled to announce new connections between North Goa (Mopa Airport) and Abu Dhabi. The substantial demand, in India, for travel to the Middle East has not gone unnoticed, and at IndiGo, we are proactively taking steps to cater to this demand through these new connections. With the addition of these flights, IndiGo will fly 52 times a week to Abu Dhabi from 8 cities in India, bringing the UAE even closer. As we include these routes in our upcoming winter schedule, we are confident that both destinations will experience a significant boost in trade/tourism. We will continue to enhance our connectivity.”

The North Goa airport owned and operated by the GMR Group got the status of international airport from July 12.

The move comes amidst the approval of the new Goa airport to operate international flights. On July 12, the central government issued a Gazette notification notifying the designation of the Mopa airport as an authorised immigration checkpoint for entry into and exit from India with valid documents for all class of passengers.
