The infrastructure around the lesser known Nongmahir Lake at Nongdiengngan village in the Ri-Bhoi district of the state will be developed to promote tourism in the scenic spot with the cabinet on Thursday deciding to procure land for the purpose.
“This is being done to increase the overall land bank with the state government so that tourism projects can take place and we all know that this area, Nongmahir Lake is very beautiful and scenic with a huge potential for tourism. And hence, with this procurement of land, we will be able to take up tourism projects in this area,” chief minister Conrad K Sangma said after chairing the cabinet meeting here.
He said the government would acquire 50 acres of land at a cost of INR 10 crore.
“It is a beautiful scenic location so we are seeing anything from having resorts there, different kinds of tourism based activities. It is a nice lake. We can have other water body related activities. We feel it is a highly potential area for tourism,” he said.
