Rohtas district is set to emerge as an ecotourism hotspot with entertainment zones and water sports. Tourism secretary Abhay Kumar Singh inspected various tourist spots in the district, including Rohtasgarh and Shergarh Fort besides Durgavati reservoir on Friday and directed the officials to improve facilities there.
“There is a continuous rise in tourist footfall in this area and the department is working on the development of an entertainment and activity zone with various amenities such as cafeterias, swings, rock climbing facilities and go-karting,” Singh said.
Singh also directed the officials to enhance facilities to cater to the increasing number of visitors and execute a comprehensive plan to facilitate the transformation of Rohtas into an ecotourism destination in the state.
Singh examined approximately 5 acres of vacant land at Shergarh Fort and directed Rohtas DM Dharmendra Kumar and the divisional forest officer, Rohtas, to conduct a survey and provide a detailed report to the tourism department within a week for swift implementation of the plan.
The secretary proposed the addition of small 4 to 6-seater boats in the Durgavati reservoir for small groups of people to enjoy the place. He visited Sita Kund and stressed the importance of beefing up security while expanding the existing barricades. Later, he evaluated Manjhar Kund and Dhuan Kund for which the tourism department has drafted a detailed development plan.“The plan includes tour packages and setting up facilities such as cafeterias, gazebos and a suspension bridge to be designed with environmental consideration,” Singh said.
During the inspection of the Rohtasgarh ropeway scheme, Singh expressed concern over the slight delay caused by rain, hampering the expected progress of the project. He directed the officials to complete the Rohtasgarh ropeway scheme within 6 months. He also insisted on installing an additional suspension bridge, a changing room and anti-skid tiles on the stairs at Tutula Bhawani waterfall area.
