The aviation and tourism industries are interconnected, and their synergy fosters employment opportunities and drives economic growth across the country. Taking this thought forward while providing a common platform for all industry stakeholders, and policymakers to discuss the growth and prospects of the Indian Helicopter and Small Aircraft industry, the 5th Helicopter & Small Aircraft Summit is set to take place on July 25, 2023 in Khajuraho, Madhya Pradesh.
The summit’s primary objectives are to enhance the scope of the UDAN (Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik) Scheme, which focuses on regional connectivity in remote and hilly terrains, and to expand the country’s rural-to-urban connectivity. A key focus is also on boosting the connectivity of helicopters and small aircraft to places with existing and potential tourism hotspots by providing uninterrupted services.
The 5th Heli Summit comes at a crucial time when the Indian civil aviation industry is undergoing a paradigm shift. This sector has become essential not only for India but for humanity worldwide, as it brings along two vital multipliers: the economic multiplier and the employment multiplier.
Helicopters and small aircraft play crucial roles in India’s transportation ecosystem. Civilian helicopters contribute significantly to improved accessibility, particularly in remote areas where conventional modes of transportation may not be feasible. Moreover, they hold immense potential for tourism by allowing travellers to experience scenic landscapes and cultural destinations in unique ways.
Additionally, these helicopters are instrumental in emergency medical services and disaster management during floods, rescue operations, and more.
Similarly, small aircraft provide efficient and convenient transportation options for both business and leisure travellers, enhancing regional air connectivity and promoting the exploration of lesser-known destinations.
The event, to be inaugurated by Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, Union Minister of Civil Aviation & Steel, will be jointly organised by the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Government of Madhya Pradesh, Pawan Hans Ltd., and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI). The summit’s theme is “Reaching the Last Mile: Regional Connectivity through Helicopters & Small Aircraft” and will consist of an inaugural session followed by a technical session.According to the Ministry of Civil Aviation, the summit will serve as a vital platform facilitating the implementation of efficient and rational decisions that would further boost India’s civil aviation industry, thereby contributing to the nation’s overall development and progress.
