District magistrate S Rajalingam on Saturday inspected Pancho Pandava in Shivpur area, the fourth stoppage of the Panchkoshi Parikrama pilgrimage route to take stock of the facilities for the pilgrims.
Panchkoshi Parikrama is one one of the most significant festivals in Varanasi. Panchkoshi Parikrama is a sacred pilgrimage route of over 80 kms with five Padaavs (stoppages). The route will be developed with a budget of INR 39.22 crores under the Tourism Development Plan.
As per Hindu tradition, the pilgrims begin the Panchkroshi Yatra from Chakrapushkarini Tirtha at Manikarnika Ghat. After passing through the five stoppages -Kandwa, Bhimchandi, Rameshwar, Shivpur and Kapildhara, they end the procession at Manikarnika Ghat.
The DM directed the officials to ensure proper cleanliness as well as lighting at the encampment sites and routes to make sure that devotees won’t have to face any kind of inconvenience. The repair and conservation works of the Pancho Pandava are being executed by the tourism department. While taking stock of the conservation work, he expressed his displeasure over non-completion of works related to electricity, water supply and signage. During the visit, the DM was accompanied by the city health officer Dr. NP Singh and officials of tourism and other concerned departments.
