Full-service carrier owned by the Tata Group, Air India ir India, has announced non-stop flights between Delhi and Dhaka, enhancing connectivity for travellers flying between the capital cities of India and Bangladesh.

Starting September 15, 2023, Air India will fly four times weekly between the two cities using its Airbus A320 aircraft. Air India currently flies thrice weekly between Kolkata and Dhaka.

The additional frequency will help serve the increased demand for international travel to and from Dhaka on the back of Bangladesh’s rapid economic growth and overall development, the airline said in a statement.

Air India’s flight AI237 will depart Delhi at 1755hrs, arriving in Dhaka at 2045hrs. The return flight AI238 will leave Dhaka at 2145hrs, arriving in Delhi at 2350hrs. All times are local.

Air India to lease three 777-300 ER from Singapore Airlines

These aircraft are in addition to the 11 777 leased aircraft and will be used to phase out the older 777-200 aircraft which were inducted in 2009. The three aircraft were retired by Singapore Airlines in 2021 as part of its wider culling of fleet after Covid-19 pandemic which hit business travel. An industry source said that the aircraft are stored in good condition and have four class cabins with first class and premium economy.

Recently, Air India also announced its latest offering, Upgrade+, for travellers with eligible bookings to purchase instant, confirmed upgrades to the front cabins at fixed prices. Upgrade+ enables Air India guests to opt for upgrades to premium cabins between 72 hours and 12 hours before a flight, subject to availability. Alternatively, Air India guests can purchase cabin upgrades at the airline’s airport counters at the time of checking in. With the launch of Upgrade+, Air India has discontinued its ‘Bid Upgrade’ programme, whereby guests with eligible bookings could earlier bid for cabin upgrades and were required to wait for up to four hours before their flight’s departure for upgrade decisions.
