AP Inland Waterways Authority (AP IWA) has prepared a blueprint to promote temple tourism.
With several prominent temples in the state located on riverbanks, IWA wants to promote religious tourism through waterways. The newly set-up AP IWA is keen to make the new project operational in the next eight months. This new concept offers pilgrims spirituality as well as recreation.
According to the DPR readied by the AP IWA, the focus is on temples in NTR and Guntur districts. The IWA has identified seven locations to link the temples on boat route. They have also decided to construct seven jetties for anchoring the boats. The plan is visit all the temples in a day. The facilities including refreshments and washrooms will be created at the jetty premises.
“We can plan extended tours depending on response for initial plans. We have now set our focus on a day’s trip for the convenience of pilgrims,” said a senior official of AP IWA. He said that the entire 80-km-long trip will give pilgrims an amazing experience during the boat ride.
The tour has been planned from Durga Ghat at the bottom of Sri Kanakadurga temple in Vijayawada. The pilgrims will be then taken to Bhavani Island where they would be given one hour to go around. They will be served with refreshments before relaunching the tour to Pavitra Sangamam near the ferry. The boat will reach Vaikuntapuram on the other side of the riverbank where the pilgrims would be taken to Sri Venkateswara Swamy temple managed by the TTD. The ride will resume to reach Sri Amaralingeswara Swamy temple in Amaravati. After paying visit to the temple, the pilgrims would be taken to Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple in Vedadri near Jaggaiahpet in NTR district. The tour will be winded up with a visit to Muktyala Bhavani Mukteswara Swamy temple at Muktyala. The pilgrims would then board bus and taken back to Vijayawada by road. Separate waiting lounges, rest rooms, ticket booking counters and restrooms would be constructed near the jetties.
