With the aim of attracting tourists from Southeast Asia, Odisha Tourism successfully conducted the third leg of its International Tourism promotional campaign with a Roadshow in Hanoi, Vietnam. The Tourism Roadshow, organised in association with the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), witnessed active participation from more than 130 Tour and Travel Operators from Vietnam who networked with tourism industry stakeholders of Odisha.
During his presentation, the Director of Tourism, Sachin Ramchandra Jadhav, highlighted the historical maritime trade connections between Kalinga (erstwhile Odisha) and Champa (ancient Southern Vietnam), drawing parallels between the cultures of both regions. He shed light on various tourism products offered by Odisha, with a particular emphasis on attracting tourists from Vietnam, especially those interested in exploring the Buddhist Circuit.
The roadshow in Hanoi commenced with B2B (Business-to-Business) and B2G (Business-to-Government) sessions, where stakeholders from Vietnam and Odisha interacted and explored potential collaborations. This was followed by Jadhav, delivering a detailed presentation on Odisha Tourism’s initiatives towards sustainable tourism projects. These projects, he said, have been successful in attracting tourists from across the globe.
Stressing the significance of the Roadshow, he added, “This platform offers industry stakeholders from Vietnam and Odisha the opportunity to network and explore avenues for tourism promotion, thereby boosting the tourism-driven economy in both regions.”
Commending the proactive steps taken by the Odisha Government to promote tourism, Indronil Sengupta, Chairman of the Indian Business Chamber at Vietnam (INCHAM Hanoi), expressed his belief that the Roadshow series would foster collaborations between Odisha and Vietnamese stakeholders in the tourism sector. He further highlighted that this collaboration would enhance the marketing efforts of both Odisha and Vietnam in promoting their respective destinations to prospective tourists.
During the panel discussion on the theme ‘Tourism Potential in Odisha,’ the First Secretary urged Vietnamese Tour Operators to develop and curate special packages for Vietnamese travellers, encouraging them to explore the heritage Buddhist Sites of Odisha. The panel discussion, led by J.K. Mohanty, CMD of Swosti Group, comprised panelists from various domains representing MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, Exhibitions), Luxury Cruises, Houseboats, Heritage Palaces, Hospitality, and Destination Management Companies.Earlier on the same day, the Odisha Tourism delegation, led by Jadhav, had a meeting with the Indian Ambassador to Vietnam, Sandeep Arya. The discussion revolved around exploring tourism growth opportunities between Odisha and Vietnam. The Indian Ambassador assured full support from the Embassy in promoting Odisha’s diverse tourism offerings in Vietnam, offering valuable suggestions to enhance the collaboration.
According to the state’s tourism department, the enthusiastic response from the tourism industry stakeholders of both Vietnam and Odisha was instrumental in making the roadshow successful.
The department also mentioned Odisha notably emerging as a premier tourist-friendly destination, garnering international acclaim and attention from travellers worldwide. The state has undertaken several steps to enhance its tourism offerings, including strategic master planning and development of priority destinations across the state. Moreover, Odisha has introduced niche tourism products such as houseboat and cruise tourism, camping, homestays, and culinary tourism, among others. Upcoming attractions include caravans and yachts, aiming to attract a diverse array of visitors.
