Igatpuri in Nashik district of Maharashtra has been brimming with tourists over the past few weeks as a large number of people from Mumbai, Surat, and other parts of the state have come here to watch the scenic view of the town.
Hotels, resorts, and even the private bungalows and villas that are given on rent are completely occupied.
Suraj Gutpa, one of the hoteliers in Igatpuri, said, “There are around 15 resorts, some hotels, and hundreds of bungalows and villas that are rented out. As of now, all of them are completely occupied. People from Nashik and around come for a day’s visit, while those from Mumbai, Surat, and other places stay for a few days. Thirty percent of the tourists are from Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, and Surat. The remaining are from nearby areas.”
“There are many sights in and around Igatpuri. The hills, mountains, rivers, lakes, and valleys around the town, the waterfalls, mediation centre, trekking options, and paddy fields all attract people from various places every year during monsoon,” he added.Vikas Bavisi, a resident from Kandivali, said, “There is greenery all around, the air is fresh without any pollution, and one can spend hours together near the lakes or waterfalls.”
Given the rush of people, the police have deployed additional forces at certain places for crowd control.
PI Raju Surve of the Igatpuri police station said the number of visitors increases on Saturdays and Sundays. Among other places, we put up bandobast from Pimpri Phata, Pimpri village, Bhavli village entrance, and the four Bhavali waterfalls. The aim is to ensure that there are no accidents.
