Amid a sharp jump in tourist footfall in resorts and hotels in monsoon, the state tourism department is mulling over upgrading infrastructure and adding more rooms for stay in hotels in the Indore region. Hotels and resorts are witnessing a sharp rise in bookings on weekends and long holidays.
The state tourism department is mulling over adding more rooms at Omkareshwar and setting up tents at Hanuwantiya while upgrading and renovating infrastructure at Ujjain, Maheshwar, Mandu and Omkareshwar.
“Tourist movement has recorded a significant jump in the past a few months in the state due to a rise in travellers visiting Ujjain and nearby tourist areas. This has triggered fresh demand and we are working on adding more facilities and infrastructure at our properties,” said an official from the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation.
The tourism department is working on plans to construct new rooms on their property in Omkareshwar. The department is also planning to upgrade swimming pools in resorts by adding slides and music.
“Due to a jump in visit of devotees to Ujjain, its nearby areas — Omkareshwar, Maheshwar and Mnadu — have also witnessed a rise in tourist movement. This has become one of the most visited tourist circuits,” said the official. The tourism department is anticipating around a 10-12 per cent hike in revenues in the current financial year due to high influx of tourists. In the financial year 2022 -23, the tourism department had generated revenue of Rs 220 crore.
Between April 2023-mid and July 2023, the tourism department earned Rs 60 crore from resort bookings and other activities, according to the official figures.
