There is finally some window of hope for F1 visa applicants from Hyderabad, who’ve faced rejections in the past. With slots opening up at various consulates across India, aspirants are rushing in to get their hands on them to be able to finally take off to the US for a master’s degree.

Many of these are students have failed to get a valid visa three to four times. These candidates said that they have been waiting for more than a year for this opportunity and are hopeful of making it this time.

The F1 visa valid for a period of five years is given to students to pursue a masters degree from the US.

“I have deferred my admission twice since last year as my visa got rejected a couple of times. In my desperation, I even went to Vietnam for a visa interview, but even there my visa was rejected,” said Rakesh P, who is now set to travel to New York on August 14.

He attended a visa interview in New Delhi recently and has been approved to study in the US, on his third attempt.

Another candidate, Vijay M, said: “I have been appearing for interviews since June last year. I deferred my admission five times. Finally, my visa has been approved now and I will be travelling next week.” Vijay too appeared for his last interview from Chennai.

Australia to temporarily stop accepting TOEFL for visas

Australian government is currently reviewing the changes made, the Department of Home Affairs notice further said. The updated version of TOEFL iBT was launched on July 25. For Australian visa purposes, the Department will accept IELTS test results that include OSR, with the exception of applications for subclasses 476, 482, and 485, which need scores from a single sitting/attempt, the notification further said.

Like him, many candidates from the city said that they are forced to travel either to Delhi or Chennai as there aren’t many slots that have been opened up for rejected candidates in Hyderabad, particularly those whose visas were disapproved post July 2022. The students urged the US Consulate, in Hyderabad to consider opening more slots for such applicants.”As there are no slots in Hyderabad, I went to Chennai last month for a visa interview but got rejected. The rejection rate in other consulates is way higher as candidates from different parts of the country are flying down to appear for their visa interviews. I feel, opening up slots here will be beneficial for candidates like me,” said Manikantha K adding that though he wants to try again, he is wary of booking a slot in another city due to the high rejection rate.

Another candidate, Pavithra N, said that she has been waiting since last May to go to the US. “Now, I want to appear for it in city as I have already tried other places,” she added.
