The national carrier of Egypt and a member of Star Alliance Egypt Air launched a new destination in India after it announced direct flights between Cairo and Delhi from August 4. Celebrating the historic occasion of connecting capital cities of both countries for the first time, the airline organised a launch event in Delhi which was attended by the airline’s Chairman and CEO, Captain Mohamed Moussa and the Egyptian Ambassador in India, Wael Hamed, and Amr Ali, Country Manager – North & East India, Egypt Air. The airline will operate four times a week flights between Cairo and Delhi with two departures on Fridays and Sundays at 11:40 (Cairo time) and two departures on Thursdays and Saturdays at 23:50 (Cairo time). The carrier will use its newly acquired A320neo aircraft on the route with two cabin-class configurations with 16 Business Class seats and 126 Economy Class seats. The flight duration is approximately 5 hours and 30 minutes.

In a conversation with ETTravelWorld, the Chairman & CEO of the airline shared more details and said that India is an important market for Egypt Air. “We have studied many new markets where we can expand globally and found that India is a very lucrative market in terms of various possibilities and opportunities. The new flights to Delhi is a testament to the commitment of Egypt Air to expand in India.”

“We are delighted to start flights from Cairo to Delhi – the second Gateway apart from the existing operations to Mumbai. This will not only offer a new alternative for consumers for travel but further strengthen relations between Egypt & India and stimulate tourism, travel, and business between the two countries,” he added.

Expanding into Southeast Asia, Egypt Air has recently added Dhaka in Bangladesh, New Jersey in North America, and Manchester in England to its network to serve new markets around the world.

Further talking about the airline’s global operations, Moussa said the move is the airline’s ongoing efforts to boost tourism and travel while continuing its development, modernization, and expansion plans. “We operate more than 19 flights a day to Jeddah and Medina every day. We also have three flights to Riyadh and two flights daily to Damman. We also operate regular flights to the Middle East connecting Dubai, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi, Doha, and Bahrain from Cairo,” he informed.

Currently, Egypt Air has a fleet of 67 aircraft with 19 widebody and 48 narrowbody planes. The airline is expected to add two more Dreamliners to its fleet in the next two years to boost its long-haul operations and strengthen Cairo as a transit hub.
