Lal Draman meadow in Jammu & Kashmir’s Doda district, has long remained unnoticed in the tourism sector due to its lack of road connectivity. However, with collaborative efforts between Doda administration and the Directorate of Tourism Jammu, a task of establishing road access to Lal Draman was initiated last week.
According to the district officials, the inauguration of the Bijerni Lal Draman Road will grant the recognition to the meadow as a tourist destination and it will be a symbol of improved accessibility.
To bring this lesser-known destination on the tourism radar of Jammu and Kashmir, the Doda administration launched a two-day Youth Conclave and Lal Draman Summer Festival. The event, which commenced last week, drew several visitors eager to experience the beauty of the meadow.
The event was a collaboration between the Doda administration, the Directorate of Tourism Jammu, and the Jammu Kashmir Academy of Art Culture & Languages and also showcased a tourism mela.
Situated 15 km away from Doda town, Lal Draman attracts visitors with its meadows surrounded by towering mountains and landscapes. Beyond its beauty, the meadow boasts a rich cultural heritage, with the local community preserving age-old customs and traditions.
Addressing the media, DC Doda Vishesh Mahajan urged the youth to promote such local offbeat tourist places, local culture, food, and heritage. He said, “Such efforts could bring economic prosperity to the district while fostering a sense of community responsibility.” Mahajan also stressed the importance of unity in safeguarding the environment, promoting cleanliness, and preserving local resources.
The event also had a vibrant cultural program, featuring local artists and various local games.
To accommodate visitors, the tentage facilities have been provided, open for use until October 31.
Activities such as trekking, zorbing, zip-lining, marathon races, local cuisine sampling, horseback riding, and art and craft exhibitions were available for the visitors. These offerings aimed not only to introduce tourists to the natural wonders of Lal Draman but also to immerse them in the region’s local culture and traditions, the officials stated.
With the inaugural Lal Draman Summer Festival, Doda has taken a significant step toward placing Lal Draman meadow prominently on the tourist map.
