Raksha Bandhan is a significant festival celebrated in India to honour the bond between brothers and sisters. The festival often leads to increased domestic travel as families come together to celebrate. Siblings living in different cities or regions might travel back to their hometowns to be with their families. This can result in higher demand for transportation options like trains, buses, and flights.

This year, many families are planning short weekend getaways or trips to nearby destinations during Raksha Bandhan. This has led to a surge in bookings for hotels, resorts, and holiday homes in popular tourist spots near major cities.

With the increasing demand, last-minute bookings have also gone up.

Online travel agency owned by Flipkart has released interesting travel trends leading up to Raksha Bandhan.

According to Cleartrip’s data, there has been a significant increase in air bookings in the 2-7 days’ period before Raksha Bandhan, with a 137 per cent spike compared to last year. In the 8-14 days’ period before Raksha Bandhan, there has also been a 97 per cent increase in air bookings compared to last year.

As for hotel bookings, there has been a 41 per cent increase in bookings compared to last year. Prahlad Krishnamurthi, Chief Business Officer, Cleartrip said that Cleartrip has grown 42 per cent growth at the BAU level for hotels from August 2022 to August 2023.

According to search data, the top destinations for Raksha Bandhan travel are Jaipur, Lucknow, Goa, Bhubaneswar, and Patna, which are gaining more popularity this year.
