Kerala State Inland Navigation Corporation (KSINC) is launching a second cruise boat ‘Cleopatra‘ and the service from Marine Drive in the city to Kottayam, connecting the backwaters of Alappuzha, will begin next week.
The first boat ‘Michele‘ started service in the second week of August, from Marine Drive to the Palakari Aqua Tourism Centre at Vaikom in Kottayam.
The second boat will be operated under the same cruise package of ‘Michele’ and both services will be offering similar facilities, said a KSINC source. The package includes lunch, tea and snacks, and the facilities at the fish farm, and will cost INR 999 per person.
The service beginning from Marine Drive in the morning will cover Thevara, Aroor, Arookutty, Perumbalam, Poothotta and Palakari fish farms and culminate at Ernakulam in the evening.
Besides the journey through the backwater regions and the entertainment facilities at the aqua tourism centre, a close view of Kochi Naval Base and Cochin Shipyard will be major attractions of the trip.
The second service is being launched, after a positive response to the first boat service, exclusively for the journey through different backwater areas of Alappuzha and Kottayam, said a KSNIC official.
“People can enjoy the entertainment facilities of the aqua tourism centre, including rowing boat, coracle service, pedal boat, etc, without any extra fee. Motor boat riders, both inside and outside the farm, can enjoy it by paying an additional fee,” he added.
KSNIC is presently operating Nefertiti, Sagararani and Sooryamsu backwater and sea cruise boat services in Kochi.
