A US-based mission-based space expedition company, SpaceVIP, will launch its services in India next month to allow high networth individuals in the country to travel to space.
New York-headquartered SpaceVIP offers a variety of cutting-edge space and space-adjacent experiences to their clients, from space balloons like those offered by Space Perspective to the zero-gravity flight that allows you to experience lunar, martian and zero gravity. As the only company that can take its clients to the International Space Station (ISS), SpaceVIP specialises in extraordinary experiences, travel and events, making it the bridge between the space industry and the public. “For the first time, these luxury services will be available to clientele in India,” the company said in a statement.
SpaceVIP was founded by Roman Chiporuka and Eddie Miller in early 2021. Through his lifestyle management and travel firm, Roman & Erica, Roman successfully introduced the final passenger to the first all-private space mission at a $50 million ticket to the ISS. For Roman, the experience highlighted the importance of inspiring the next generation of private astronauts, leading him to found SpaceVIP in order to promote the advancement of humanity’s unity in space exploration.
“I realised that many of the comforts that we take for granted in our daily lives are purely the result of space innovation… Private sector participation in the space industry is accelerating innovation critical to the future of mankind, giving us a chance to tackle the critical social, economic and environmental challenges facing our planet,” Roman Chiporuka, co-founder of SpaceVIP.SpaceVIP is eyeing the Indian market after it witnessed the country’s keen interest in space activities and growing number of HNIs. The company has been closely following India’s recent advances in space education and space exploration, including the successful landing of the Chandrayaan-3 on the lunar south pole and the recent launch of Aditya-L1 towards the Sun’s outermost layers, a company official told TOI.
SpaceVIP’s purpose is to fuel a global culture of curiosity and to provide their clients with a deeper understanding of the universe, the company said.
SpaceVIP’s website says it can help secure tickets for 11 different space travel programs. The programs can be completed in one day and require minimal training, Chiporukha said, and he expects tickets to sell out quickly once regular flights begin.
