Marking the beginning of the cruise season at Cochin Port, cruise ship MV Empress Cordelia made a visit at Cochin Port on Tuesday.
The cruise liner, carrying 498 passengers from Chennai port, left for Mumbai via Lakshadweep after a short break at Cochin port around 4pm.
Empress Cordelia’s is the first visit of a cruise ship at Cochin Port this season. The port is expecting visits by more than 60 cruise vessels, including 28 foreign ships, this season.
“We have so far confirmed the calling of 58 ships at the port this season. The next call of cruise liner at the port would be by October end. It would be Coasta cruise liner with a capacity to carry 2,600 passengers. The domestic cruise liner has declared five calls at the port this season. It would be on a trial basis. The number of visits may be increased based on the responses from travellers,” said a source of Cochin Port Authority (CPA).
The first visit of a foreign cruise ship at the port is expected to be by December end.It was last year that an international cruise ship made a visit at the port after a gap of two years due the Covid pandemic.
With the arrival of foreign vessels the local tourism sector will also get a boost as they will spend more days here with special tour packages connecting different tourism destinations in and around Kochi, said the CPA source.
