This festive season has witnessed an approximate 25%-30% rise in bus seat bookings as compared to the previous year. The KSRTC Mangaluru division is currently operating a substantial fleet with an addition of 30-35 buses daily, covering routes to north Karnataka, Bengaluru, and Mysuru.
Rajesh Shetty, senior divisional controller, KSRTC Mangaluru division told TOI that the Bengaluru, Mysuru-Mangaluru route has experienced the highest demand. It is currently serviced by six Volvo multi-axle buses, eight non-AC sleeper buses and Rajahamsa buses, along with approximately 16-17 Karnataka Sarige buses.
In response to the increased number of travellers, an additional 31 KSRTC buses were deployed on the Bengaluru-Mangaluru route on October 21, compared to the regular 55 buses in operation. On October 21, 26 additional buses were deployed, and more than 20 buses are expected to operate on October 22.
Prakash Sangam, CEO RedBus.in, told TOI, “For the Dasara period, there is an average increase of 10 buses per day on the Mangaluru-Bengaluru route. Compared to last year, there has been a 28% increase in seat bookings on the Mangaluru – Bengaluru route and a 24% increase in seat bookings for the Bengaluru- Mangaluru route. There is a 42% increase in the seat bookings on the Bengaluru-Udupi route and a 49% increase on the Udupi – Bengaluru route.” Dasara Darshana buses
The demand for Mangaluru Dasara Darshana buses is on the rise, with an average 13 buses operating daily to various temples. Among the different routes, the Kollur and city temples are particularly popular, with at least four to five buses servicing the Kollur route daily. This service by KSRTC is highly regarded as it provides economical travel options for the public. Moreover, on Sunday, 17 buses were in operation, connecting various temples in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi.
