redBus witnesses surge in demand with 1.5 lakh daily bus seats to Ayodhya for Ram Temple consecration, ET TravelWorld

As Ayodhya prepares for the consecration ceremony at the Ram Temple, redBus, the world’s largest online bus ticketing platform, announces the availability of over 1.5 lakh daily bus seats to the holy city. Recognised for its extensive network, accessibility, and affordability, buses have become the preferred mode of transport for devotees attending the sacred event.

redBus, offering 339 daily services, said it has experienced a remarkable 120 per cent surge in demand for travel to Ayodhya compared to the same period last year. Catering to passengers from various states, redBus collaborates with both RTCs and private bus operators, including UPSRTC, which handles around 80 per cent of the bus passenger traffic.

The top intercity bus routes by volume include Delhi–Ayodhya, Jaipur–Ayodhya, and Dehradun–Ayodhya. Intrastate routes within Uttar Pradesh encompass Varanasi–Ayodhya, Lucknow–Ayodhya, Prayagraj–Ayodhya, Mathura–Ayodhya, and Agra–Ayodhya.

Currently, cities like Jaipur, Chandigarh, Delhi, Dehradun, Indore, and Patna operate 130 daily services to Ayodhya, with expectations of an increase to 200 services soon.

With 339 bus services connecting Ayodhya from various cities across India, the longest routes originate from Maharashtra, including Mumbai–Ayodhya, Pune–Ayodhya, and Nagpur–Ayodhya, requiring approximately 40 hours.

SpiceJet has announced a special flight operation from Delhi to Ayodhya on January 21, 2024, exclusively for passengers attending the historic ‘Pran Pratishta’ ceremony, while IndiGo has launched a new route to Ayodhya from Ahmedabad starting January 11. In a seprate development, the newly inaugurated Maharishi Valmiki International Airport, Ayodhyadham (MVIAA) has already received more than 40 requests for landing of chartered flights for the ‘Pran Pratishtha’ event on January 22.

To accommodate the growing demand, both RTCs and private operators have added about 25 new services, with more in the pipeline. Additionally, the Government of Uttar Pradesh has inaugurated the Ayodhya Dham bus terminal, spanning over 36,400+ sqm, to facilitate the smooth arrival of pilgrims traveling via UPSRTC.Prakash Sangam, CEO of redBus, commented on the surge in demand, stating, “We are witnessing unprecedented demand for Ayodhya, which is not surprising given the significance and magnitude of this occasion attracting people from all over India. As the market leader in the bus ticketing space, catering to a very large proportion of travelers to Ayodhya, we are working continuously with UPSRTC and other partner bus operators to facilitate the smooth travel of devotees and make this occasion memorable for them.”
