Delhi’s tourism department is organising heritage walks at 50 different locations across the capital from Saturday. These walks will continue till March 31 with the first inaugural walk scheduled at Mehrauli Archaeological Park.
According to the tourism department’s website, Mehrauli Archaeological Park, which is uniquely dotted with ruins from early medieval times to the 19th century, is one of the most popular heritage sites in the city.
The major attractions at Mehrauli Archaeological Park include the mosque and tomb of Jamali, a royal tomb which is the first building in the subcontinent to use the true arch, a beautiful step well with subterranean rooms and residence of a British official (which was built out of a tomb). The site is adjacent to another historically important place, the Qutub complex.
The other popular trails include Hauz Khas & Deer Park, Jahanpanah & Begumpur, Lodhi Garden, Tughlaqabad and Kotla Feroz Shah.
