SriLankan Airlines & Korean Air forge new codeshare partnership, ET TravelWorld

SriLankan Airlines and Korean Air have entered into a strategic codeshare partnership effective from March 15, 2024, enhancing travel options and connectivity for passengers traveling between Colombo and Seoul.

Under this new partnership, SriLankan Airlines will codeshare on Korean Air flights operating between Singapore and Seoul Incheon, enabling passengers to travel seamlessly on a single ticket between Colombo and Incheon via Singapore. Simultaneously, Korean Air will codeshare on SriLankan Airlines flights connecting Colombo with Seoul Incheon, Singapore, Chennai in India, and Male in the Maldives.

Richard Nuttall, CEO, SriLankan Airlines, expressed enthusiasm about this inaugural codeshare venture with Korean Air, stating, “We are excited to announce our first-ever codeshare agreement with Korean Air, which will significantly improve connectivity between Colombo and Seoul. The demand for travel between these two cities has been impressive, and this partnership will facilitate our expansion on this route, providing customers more reasons to choose SriLankan Airlines.”

SriLankan Airlines currently offers a twice-weekly direct service between Colombo and Incheon. With this collaboration, passengers now have the flexibility of daily flights between Colombo and Seoul via Singapore, tapping into Korean Air’s extensive Far Eastern network.

The introduction of these codeshare connections enhances travel options for Indian tourists, as well as business and leisure travellers, especially during the upcoming summer season. IndiGo already provides travel options to Singapore, further complemented by seamless connectivity to Qantas’ flights between Singapore and Australia. Both airlines had signed a codeshare agreement in 2022.

Passengers flying with Korean Air will also gain access to SriLankan Airlines’ robust network in the Indian Subcontinent, covering India and the Maldives comprehensively. SriLankan Airlines operates close to 100 weekly flights across nine Indian cities and 23 weekly flights to the Maldives, including triple daily plus flights between Colombo and Chennai and triple daily flights between Colombo and Male.The codeshare flights are available for booking through SriLankan Airlines’ and Korean Air’s online reservation systems, sales offices, and external travel agencies. Customers of both airlines will benefit from multiple flight options, seamless connections, through check-in, and baggage transfer services, all facilitated by a single ticket for multi-sector journeys.

With increased flight choices, smoother connections, and a stronger market presence, both airlines are committed to delivering an enhanced travel experience for passengers while strengthening bilateral relations between the two nations.
