With its strategic focus and effective outreach initiatives, Dubai‘s Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) is planning to leave a lasting impression in the Indian market, supported by the growing visitor numbers recorded in the first half of 2023.

According to the DET data, Dubai experienced a remarkable 23 per cent increase in overnight visitor numbers compared to the same period in 2019, during the first five months of this year.

As the summer travel season approached, DET also ramped up its efforts to position Dubai as the preferred destination for Indian travellers. Through a series of B2B travel trade engagements, including roadshows, mega familiarisation trips, and trade workshops, DET captured the attention of travellers from various regions of India.

DET’s commitment to expanding its footprint in secondary markets across India has yielded outstanding results.

To showcase Dubai’s offerings and entice Indian travellers, mega familiarisation trips were organised between January and June 2023. Over 200 travel agents from 30 cities, including Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Punjab, Delhi NCR, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Assam, and Uttar Pradesh, participated in these trips. The goal was to familiarise them with Dubai’s attractions and tourism landscape.

“India is a top priority for us, and we are committed to showcasing different facets of the destination to the Indian traveller,” said Bader Ali Habib, Head of South Asia, Dubai’s Department of Economy and Tourism.

According to Booking.com’s mid-year travel insights, 86 per cent of Indian travellers are optimistic about their future travel plans within the next 12 months. In the first half of 2023, domestic destinations included New Delhi, Jaipur, Bangalore, Rishikesh, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai, Pune, Manali, and Gurgaon. For international travel, some top choices were Dubai, Bangkok, London, Singapore, among others.

“We have covered the breadth and depth of India by conducting multi-city roadshows, trade workshops, and mega familiarisation trips, while actively participating in exhibitions like SATTE 2023 and ATM 2023 to further cement our position as the No.1 outbound destination from India. With exceptional flight connectivity, a convenient visa process, and our ongoing commitment to the Indian market, we are confident that our upcoming initiatives will further amplify awareness about Dubai’s diverse attractions, multicultural setting, and abundance of hotels and attractions, making it the top choice for Indian tourists,” he continued. DET organised roadshows in key Indian cities, namely Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Chennai, positioning Dubai as the ideal international destination for summer holidays. The roadshows facilitated connections between Indian travel trade professionals and Dubai’s stakeholders, including airlines, destination management companies, hotels, resorts, and attractions.

Going beyond metro cities, DET focused on tier II cities, hosting trade dinners in Jaipur, Guwahati, and Bhubaneswar. These events showcased Dubai’s tourism offerings. DET also collaborated with IndiGo Airlines in Bhubaneswar to promote the new flight sector between Bhubaneswar and Dubai, highlighting Dubai’s growing accessibility.

The momentum continued with DET’s second roadshow held in Lucknow, New Delhi, and Chandigarh in the first half of July, attracting over 550 participants.

To deepen their engagement in major metro cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru, trade workshops were also conducted.

Over 350 participants from these cities attended the workshops, including representatives from IndiGo, Vistara, and Emirates, emphasising Dubai’s exceptional flight connectivity.
