MP highlights growth potential for cine tourism, wants to become the most ‘film friendly’ state, ET TravelWorld

To further exhibit the state’s natural settings, ancient heritage and attractive film tourism policies aided by subsidies, Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board participated in ETTravelorld Global Cine Tourism Summit in Mumbai on November 16, 2022.

Madhya Pradesh was recently honoured as the most ‘Film Friendly State’ at the National Tourism Awards in 2022 and is the only state to grant permission for film shooting within 15 days under Public Service Guarantee Act.

The event was inaugurated by the Tourism Minister of Maharashtra, Mangal Prabhat Lodha and was co-powered by Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board.

MP is also one of the first states which has included web series, OTT original content, TV serials and documentaries in the grant given under the film policy. Financial subsidy/incentive for shooting not only Feature Film but also TV Serial/show, Web series/shows and documentary in Madhya Pradesh.

Single window clearance facility is available for all filming permissions in the state.

At the inauguration, Chief Guest of the evening, Mangal Prabhat Lodha, Minister of Tourism, Skill & Entrepreneurship and Women & Child Development, Government of Maharashtra said that the Maharashtra government is ready to lend all kinds of support to both the film and tourism industry in a bid to promote and encourage cine tourism.

Under the policy, there is also a provision of exemption for the film crew staying in hotels and resorts of the tourism department along with additional financial grant for the local artists of the state. Further, there is provision of special incentive for the filmmakers on hiring local artists in the state.For the development of the film industry, there is aslo a provision for promotion of private investment and reserved land for setting up film cities, film studios, skill development centres and more. There are various workshops conducted on film related courses/ topics as well.

Skill development, employment generation through film shootings, development of basic infrastructure and private investments in the sector are few other important criterias that add to the value of film tourism in the state.

Yuvraj Padole. Deputy Director, Events &. Marketing, Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board who was present at the Cine Tourism Summit, enlightened the delegates about the possibilities and potential of MP as a film friendly state.

He also informed about a financial grant for shooting of serial/show/web series/show/documentary, special financial incentive for international filmmakers and South Indian filmmakers.

“Madhya Pradesh is a perfect combination of natural settings, ancient heritage, huge water bodies, existing hub for theatre, helpful administration and others to a film maker’s delight which makes it a preferred destination for several years. It is something prestigious for the State that the film fraternity is visiting our state repeatedly,” he added.

“This is a good opportunity for the state to increase tourism. The film producers and directors find MP more desirable as compared to other places not only because of its scenic beauty but also because people here are very hospitable,” Padole emphasised.

Other states such as Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra and Haryana also highlighted their offerings for film tourism in their respective states.

Global Cine Tourism Summit: ETTravelWorld to bring together film fraternity & destinations in Mumbai today

Scheduled to be held at Novotel Mumbai Juhu Beach on November 16, the event organised by ET TravelWorld a niche event in the film tourism space focused on bringing the destinations, government, film fraternity, and other players with the objective to connect them and engage them in dialogue that focuses on promotions, sales prospecting, networking, and productivity.

Informing about the recent developments in the state and how film tourism is becoming popular in Chhattisgarh, Dwivedi announced that the state will soon become the next film tourism hub in the country.

“Happy to inform you that we now have a good film tourism policy in place, where the government is offering incentives to film makers. We have already shot a good number of films and 9-10 web series across different parts of the state. A lot of development work is on. Popular actors and producers are choosing our state for shooting, so there’s a lot of buzz. Our culture and tribes are become a good medium to promote ourselves,” he further mentioned.

Haryana Tourism on the other hand highlighted its rich culture and heritage which is increasingly attracting the filmmakers to shoot movies and web-series in the state.

Chief guest of the event, Mangal Prabhat Lodha, Minister of Tourism, Skill & Entrepreneurship and Women & Child Development, Government of Maharashtra, announced that the state government is willing to provide infrastructure to stakeholders and private entrepreneurs who would like to take initiative towards promoting tourism and film shootings in Maharashtra.

“We are willing to provide all the support to any private stakeholder who wants to come forward with their plans to develop tourism in the state. They have all our support. Our state is a mega film hub and we want to leverage the opportunity to promote film tourism as well,” he added.
