Zostel unveils Meghalaya’s first backpacker’s hostel in Shillong, ET TravelWorld

A report by the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, suggests that in 2022 alone, the region hosted over 118 lakh domestic and 1.04 lakh foreign tourists. Recognising the surging demand for backpacker’s hostels in the Northeast, leading chain of backpacker hostels offering experiential travel, Zostel has inaugurated the region’s first backpacker hostel in Shillong.

Meghalaya Tourism Policy 2023 out; state to focus on high value-low volume tourism

With 10 marked thrust areas, the new policy focuses on positioning Meghalaya among India’s top 10 tourism states, attracting domestic and international visitors, and promoting responsible tourism practices. Besides employment generation, the new policy also emphasises on high value-low volume tourism, technological advancements, enhanced connectivity, public-private partnerships, among other priorities.
