A day after announcing migration to a new visa system, the US Embassy in India has taken a U-turn on its decision and informed that the US visa service will continue uninterrupted until further notice and there will be no temporary halt.

On Monday, the US Embassy in India notified changes in the US visa application system as its customer service partner VFS Global was scheduled to migrate to a new platform from July 12 to July 14. But retracting from its earlier decision, the Embassy on Tuesday delayed the migration process and informed that the planned migration to a new customer service and appointment system platform has been postponed.

“The date of our planned migration to a new customer service and appointment system platform has been postponed. Appointment booking, fee payment, and call center services will continue uninterrupted until further notice. Please visit https://ustraveldocs.com/in/en for additional information,” the Embassy shared the update in a tweet.

Earlier, the US Embassy in India was scheduled to adopt new system for US visa service from July 15. Last month, the US Department of State had decided to increase visa fee for non-immigrant applicants.

Last month, Eric Garcetti, US Ambassador to India had informed that the wait time for the first-time tourist visa interviews for the US been reduced by over 50 per cent. He further mentioned that the US Embassy and Missions in India are currently processing more visas, faster than ever before in the country.

The US Embassy in India expects to process at least one million visas in 2023.

US Embassy in India temporarily halts visa application process

The US Embassy, in a communication, stated that its visa service partner VFS Global is migrating to a new platform, which will result in the unavailability of appointment booking and visa fee payments for a period of three days. Effective July 15, US Embassy in India is moving to a new system for US visa service.
