India got its largest International Exhibition-cum-Convention Centre (IECC) complex at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi on July 26. This world-class infrastructure, developed at a cost of approximately INR 2700 crore, spans a vast campus area of 123 acres. The complex, developed as the country’s largest MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) destination, will also be the host venue for the G20 summit scheduled to take place in the capital in September 2023.

“Delhi gets a modern and futuristic International Exhibition-cum-Convention Centre, which will boost conference tourism in India, thus bringing people from all over the world. The economic and tourism-related benefits of the Centre will also be multifold,” stated Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who also inaugurated the facility and named it as Bharat Mandapam.

Not only will the IECC complex elevate India’s image as a global business destination, but it will also serve as a catalyst for economic growth and job creation. Small and medium enterprises will find a platform to showcase their products and services to national and international audiences, bolstering their growth. Additionally, the Centre will facilitate knowledge exchange and promote technological advancements and industry trends.

The state-of-the-art Convention Centre boasts multiple meeting rooms, lounges, auditoriums, and an amphitheater, providing a versatile space for a wide range of events. Its multi-purpose hall and plenary hall can accommodate up to seven thousand people, surpassing the seating capacity of the renowned Sydney Opera House.

The Amphitheater, with its capacity of 3,000 individuals, will witness grand performances and cultural events.

The Convention Centre stands as the crown jewel of the IECC complex. Designed in the shape of the sacred Shankha (conch shell), it seamlessly blends India’s rich traditional art and cultural elements with modern facilities. The walls and facades of the Convention Centre showcase India’s achievements in space exploration with the ‘Zero to ISRO’ exhibit, while ‘Surya Shakti’ symbolises the nation’s dedication to harnessing solar energy. Additionally, paintings and Tribal art from diverse regions of the country adorn the Centre, paying tribute to India’s cultural diversity.
