Stating a sharp rise in passport applications in Nashik city, the data provided by the city police said that so far they have verified 24,000 applications sent by the local passport office.

On an average the police have been verifying over 3,400 applications a month compared to 2,600 applications that were verified every month last year.

Police officials said that before COVID-19, the city police had been receiving around 28,000 to 29,000 applications for verification. In 2020, when the pandemic struck the city, applications had dropped to nearly half when just over 14,000 applications were received. In 2021, the number of applications increased to 20,648 and in 2022 the applications increased to 32,000.With the police getting over 24,000 applications in seven months this year, the monthly average of applications is already higher than last year.

Tourism from India to South Korea had been steadily increasing until 2019 but witnessed a decline due to the impact of Covid-19 and other factors. As part of the 2023 marketing strategy to boost tourism, the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) India office recently introduced a special K-incentive Scheme to encourage sales of Korea travel packages among Indian travel agents.

CP Ankush Shinde told press, “The number of applications we get for verification is increasing fast and the police on their part are ensuring that the verification process is done as swiftly as possible.”Sagar Waghchaure, president of Travel Agents Association of Nashik (TAAN) said, “The rate of people going abroad has increased in Nashik city. Apart from people visiting abroad for tourism, a large number of students are also going abroad for higher studies. The number of students going abroad for studies is higher than those visiting countries for tourism.”
